Welcome by Paul Evans, Chief Executive of the Royal Armouries
A museum devoted to the study of
power and conflict may not appear to be the most obvious
location for an event
which aims to build harmonious relations between business
communities in the UK and China. But the Royal Armouries
is not just a museum. We are a major Leeds business and,
as such, I hope this event will highlight the importance
of the vibrant Leeds Chinese community and help to extend
the museum’s links with that community.
Our Oriental Gallery already displays
a number of Chinese objects – including some fine pieces of armour -
and we are delighted to host this opportunity for other
UK businesses to develop their own relations with China.
The fact that so many companies have registered to be here
is a powerful indication of the country’s growing
economic and commercial importance.
I am confident that this event
will be a resounding success and look forward to hosting
similar ones in the future.
