I don’t think anyone needs reminding of the growing power of the Chinese economy, nor of the opportunities that are presented to West Yorkshire companies as a result.

What does delight me is the way in which creative and innovative support is being provided to companies through the efforts of Partners across the sub region.

Opportunity China is a fine example of that support, offering as it does the chance for you to meet with over 40 Chinese companies who have been invited to come West Yorkshire to take part in the event. These companies have been carefully matched with businesses here, so that one-to-one meetings can be arranged, maximising the potential for trading partnerships.

This is part of a long term process of support aimed at helping companies achieve sustainable business with China. As well as activity here in West Yorkshire, we have created an infrastructure in and around Hangzhou, including an office run by Yorkshire Forward, and a joint venture between Business Link and Leeds Met University. This offers companies in-market facilities for staff placement, sales and marketing activity, and research. This significant investment will provide huge benefits both to companies looking to establish themselves in the market, and to those already active, wishing to move on to a new level.

These are exciting times for West Yorkshire companies seeking to exploit opportunities in China, and we intend to continue to respond to the needs of businesses with a commitment to high quality support both here in our sub region, and in our key overseas markets.
