- The British Library attended
the event to learn more about future opportunities in China.
It
was a very good event for raising awareness among the delegates
of what the British Library has to offer businesses in China.
The two-days provided a valuable insight into the marketplace
and a chance to meet with a number of Chinese companies, many
of whom were interested in the Library's data licensing and
document supply services.
- Jonathon Ross of J R Fabrics who attended
the event prior to visiting China said it was “very well
organized” and that he would be contacting some of the
Chinese business representatives he had meetings with if he
could find time in his schedule while out in China.
- Trevor Bendrien of valves, pipes
and fittings manufacturers Greenfield Controls Ltd is arranging
for his sales team to call on the offices of the Chinese company
he met with at Opportunity China. Trevor said “I am hopeful
of business relatively soon”
- Ben Pape from the China Britain Business
Council gave a presentation at the seminars and spent time with
the delegates at the event. Ben felt the Opportunity China was
extremely useful to the companies in attendance, and there was
a good deal of valuable information exchanged between delegates.
Ben said: “My job is to improve access to China, and support
British companies once they make the transition. Opportunity
China gave us the chance to say to businesses, although getting
into the Chinese market can be difficult, there is an awful lot
of help available.”
Ben also held discussions with
the British Library at the event, looking into the possibility
of making some of their data available to China. “It will
obviously need subsequent discussions, but the British Library
are keen to explore this avenue,” Ben explained.
- Lakanga, the Huddersfield based clothing
designers, was hoping to forge business links from the event. Owner
Nadine Tattersall was looking to meet a company to make accessories
to her designs and a partnership could soon be underway. Nadine
said, “I didn’t know quite what to expect from
the event, but having met and had early discussions with a
textile company, and I am awaiting their samples of my designs.
There is no way I could have met this company if not for Opportunity
China, so it was very worthwhile for me.”
-
Barry Moakes, of Purification Products Ltd, Shipley who used
the event to see if a market existed in China for his products
and has since booked a flight to Shanghai to pursue some hot
leads from the event, said “China is now at the top of
our list or priorities”.
- “Very
many congratulations on a superb event” commented Mr
Stanford Hardy, Projects Director, Confederation of British
